What is Bai Tie-Dye?

Originating from the Dali region in Yunnan, China, Bai tie-dye (扎染) is a thousand-year-old intangible cultural heritage. It represents the perfect harmony between nature and human craftsmanship, carrying the deep cultural roots of the Bai people.

Every single piece of tie-dye craft is a labor of love. The process begins with drawing intricate, traditional patterns—like butterflies, plum blossoms, and waves—on natural cotton or linen. Artisans then meticulously hand-tie the fabric with thread, stitch by stitch and knot by knot, before immersing it into vats of natural dye.

We exclusively use natural indigo dye extracted from the Isatis root (板蓝根). This botanical dye not only yields a deep, mesmerizing indigo blue but also carries natural antibacterial properties, making it gentle on the skin and completely environmentally friendly.
